Delphin
Rather than write a Second summary for the same God, let’s talk about Dolphins.
Dolphins are incredibly intelligent and social marine mammals that live all over the planet in warm, shallower water. Because of their high intelligence and social skills they have advanced capabilities shared only by humans. Dolphins are capable of long lasting friendships and relationships. Using a series of whistles; they communicate with, and even have unique greetings for each other. When traveling, they swim close to each other, sometimes they will place their fin on top of another dolphins fin while swimming, and this is believed to be a sign of affection. Another quality seen in few other animals is the tendency to show non-reproductive sexual behavior; they masturbate, rub their genitals and even engage in homosexual behavior. Occasionally, dolphins behave sexually towards other animals, including humans.
Of his play, Delphin I or, Christian Teen Dolphin-Sex Beach Party, Anthony Miller writes: “Meet Ronnie and Barbara, two God fearing teens whose one year anniversary beach party takes a crazy turn when Barbara’s new perfume, “Delphine” (Made from Female Dolphin Pheromones) drives a Bull Dolphin to sexually assault and impregnate her. Due to her faith in Christ and belief that this was a miracle, Barbara decides to have the baby. When the half-human, half-dolphin baby turns out to be friggin’ adorable, everyone wants one. This results in a viral video sensation featuring women dousing themselves with the perfume in attempts to be impregnated by a dolphin. With his plans to propose to Barbara out with the tide, Ronnie falls into a deep depression. But as the craze hits a fever pitch, Ronnie must find a way to stop the effects of the perfume, win back his girl and handle his newfound fame. Christian Teen Dolphin-Sex Beach Party is inspired by the Beach Party films starring Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello, and the reoccurring theme in Greek mythology of Humans having sex with Gods in form of animals. This absurdist satire takes aim at the social media news cycle, religious extremism, internet fanaticism and the cult of celebrity. It also features musical numbers and alien conspiracy theories.”

Delphin II
The Delphin of myth was a divine dolphin. He assisted an infatuated Poseidon, in his pursuit of the fugitive dancer, Amphitrite, persuading her to marry the God of the Seas. This was a challenge because of Poseidon’s well- deserved reputation as a vile war-mongerer and a lecher with a hair-trigger temper. What is less well known about Delphin is that he and Amphitrite were half-brother and sister, each having been sired by Nereus, who also fathered the fifty Nereids. Delphin is thus uncle to Triton, Rhode, Kympoleia and Benthypoleia, all children of the union between Amphitrite and Poseidon.
Our play begins forty years after the ill-fated marriage, with Amphitrite in a jail’s psychiatric ward. Her grown children, all engaged in reducing sea levels, assemble to visit their mother. Uncle Delphin, repudiated by Amphitrite, wonders about his own culpability in her fate.
The back story: Delphin, Poseidon’s spy, is a genetic scientist. He theorizes that human beings evolved from dolphins. Early in his career, Delphin saved dolphins by sequencing a shift of nostrils to the tops of their heads as water levels rose, inundating land worldwide. This enabled the family Delphinidae to live in the oceans, if and only if, Poseidon consented. To realize this goal, Delphin had become indebted to Poseidon.
Can the Aegean world be saved from Poseidon’s disastrous domination? Find out what happened in Scylla’s hot tub and just what the whack and crater is. Decide for yourself if Delphin is a heroic figure or a mere merswine. Kathy Gilbert’s new one-act play answers these questions and explores the ethics of hereditary guilt.
